Madison Area Municipal Stormwater Partnership (MAMSWaP)A map of Dane County with the borders outlined of 21 partner municipalities that are involved in the Joint Storm Water Permit Group.

Rather than submit individual applications to comply with the stormwater discharge permit regulations contained in Wisconsin Administrative Code NR 216, 21 municipalities in central Dane County submitted one permit application jointly.

The goal of the municipal stormwater discharge permit (PDF) program is to reduce adverse impacts to water quality in our lakes and streams from urban sources of stormwater runoff. The portion of Dane County addressed in this plan is rich in water resources that have been adversely impacted by stormwater runoff.

Control of stormwater pollution is most effectively implemented when people and organizations understand the impact of stormwater pollution, its sources, and the actions they can take to control it. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) have identified the importance of informing and educating municipalities, the construction trades, professional service providers, and citizens about stormwater pollution.
